fINAL EVALUATION FOR UNIT 1.
The start of unit 1 I will explain the basics...
I had to do 4 web pages on what Cyanotypes, photograms/Rayogram, Camera Obscure and Pinhole camera are, I had to explain what they are and how to do/use them and research artist that use them etc. Rayograms/Photograms are used in the dark room, It’s used with photogram/rayogram paper, and you put objects on top of it and with a light it should print the objects onto the paper. Then you place it into 3 chemicals, First being the developer you leave it in there for a couple of seconds, and then place it into the fix for about 30-50 seconds. After you put it into the last chemical which is the end. and rinse it off with water, and hang out to dry. Make sure though that it’s not near any light for at least 20 minutes until its dry.
It’s fairly simple but I had to make sure I had a lot of information about it so it’s clear what they all are about. I also had to experiment with all the appropriate resources; Materials, and write up the techniques and the processing developments and base it on a specific design.
I also have done other pages, which were light painting and moving images. Me, and some others made a couple of light painting pictures what was fun! I did a before and after piece of one of the photos that was taken of myself, light painting is just used with a camera and a torch, the camera must be on a timer. There was no research of that. With the moving images I made a stop motion video of what I have been doing in a 44 second video which really was about 3-5 minutes in real life. A photo was taken every 30 seconds of what I was doing. I also have a Denmark Exchange page; I picked a younger picture of one of the Denmark students and printed two pictures out, I then cut and stick the pictures into strips. My first proper personal project it all started with Mobile photography, Near the end of December we all went up to London and took a series of pictures using an Ipod, we had to use all different effects and test them out. It was very basic, we then had to research mobile photographers and write up about what ones most inspired me. I really liked ANTON KAWASAKI and chun hong chung work, they are mobile photographers they really pushed me to go into depth with mobile photography because there pictures are built with emotion, especially with the colour effect of their pictures. I have hoped to achive that.
The second personal project was at the end of Feb for work experience, I had to take photos of things that I had to do and just what I was working on in general, I then had to write up about it and what I enjoyed most and disliked etc. The next unit was about Multiple images, Me and Emily had to take a lot of pictures of each other, doing funny faces and different emotions. I used one of the pictures that Emily took of me and used it in my final piece. My final piece was 7 pictures of myself and each picture would show a doodle as it would grow in the process. I put it into a video and posted it on my blog and also printed them out and put it onto a board. I really liked my final piece for multiple images, it was very simple but also really worked, It’s a very interesting as I drew a lot of doodles which I did by myself. The pictures and doodles are meaningless but that’s what I like about it. As I doodled each time of this picture of myself I then would scan it every lets say, 3-4 minutes to show the picture as the doodle would grow, I not only did a display of it but I also did a video of it, Which is on my blog.
Our third Personal Project was summer, I had to just post all the pictures of my summer and write about what I did etc, very simple. With the pictures that I taken over summer I didn’t do a final piece because there wasn’t a project on that it was just basically used to compare our photography to just random days out. For my Final project on Abstract, during the course I have researched up, on photographers, Richard Billingham, Rut Blees Luxemurg. I came across them as I was looking for something to work on, I was thinking of different ideas of things to focus on and take pictures of, and I really liked the idea of night photography - Taking pictures outside of the dark skies and the streets lights, making the shadows very clear. The photographers inspired me because I like their idea of images; shadows and reflection. With reflection this might be reflection of water. I then got to the point that I chose to take pictures focusing on darkness and I had taken a couple of really good pictures. I used photoshop on some of the pictures just to brighten up the brighter parts of the picture and darken the darker parts to just brighten the contrast up a little. I then chose two photos and printed them off A3 and hopefully will display them both in a nice order in the gallery.
My second piece was of abstraction was based on Alfred Stieglitz, I chose to base my work on his because his work is equivalent to the sea. His photography pictures that he takes of the sky seems as if he takes pictures during a cloudy windy day. He uses a black and white effect to give the picture some emotion which I would say makes me feel down but that’s why his pictures are so inspirational. The pictures that I have taken are equivalent to the sea, but with my pictures I haven’t use a black and white effect on them because my pictures are based on colour as well as the sea. I hoped my work is exact to Alfreds work.
